How to Install a Car Seat in a Honda Element

All states now require a car seat for children under a certain weight (each state has different weight requirements). Installing a car seat in the Honda Element may seem complicated, but is actually quite simple because of the LATCH system. The Honda Element uses the LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) system. The LATCH system is one of the easiest and most effective ways to secure your car seat. With a few steps, you will be able to take junior along with you and your Honda Element.

      Find the LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren). The LATCH looks like a belt with a metal square hook at the end. There are two located in the backseat on both the driver's and passenger side. This gives you the option of placing your car seat on either side.

      Attach the car seat. Position the car seat in the middle of the LATCH. Make sure it lies flat on the bottom and back of the seat. The car seat has two anchor LATCH straps. Snap on the first strap that is farthest away from the LATCH. Place all your weight with a knee or hand onto the car seat and press hard. Snap in the second anchor LATCH strap. Pull the slack out of the anchor strap.

      Inspect the car seat. Try to move the car seat from side to side; it should not move more than an inch. If it does, you need to pull the straps tighter.
