NASA Space Camps for Kids

NASA's only space camp program for children is located at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The day-camp program gives children in second through ninth grades the opportunity to learn about NASA, space exploration and life as an astronaut.

  1. Activities

    • Children at space camp take part in simulations to experience the feeling of space flight, meet and ask questions of real astronauts and learn about current modes of space travel. In addition, campers work together to perform a simulated shuttle mission, design exploration vehicles and space habitats, and complete other space-related activities. Children also experience the Kennedy Space Center's Shuttle Launch Experience. At the end of camp, campers take part in a special graduation ceremony.

    Inclusions

    • Campers receive a hot lunch each day as well as snacks. Campers also receive a T-shirt, an assortment of take-home informational materials, and a completion certificate issued on the last day. Campers also receive an annual pass to the Kennedy Space Center plus four tickets to the adjacent Astronaut Hall of Fame.

    Time Frame

    • Camp Kennedy Space Center is offered June through August, with a single session in the spring. Each session lasts for five days, starting on Monday morning and ending on Friday afternoon. The camp lasts from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m, though early drop-off is available, starting at 7:30. Families from out of the area may wish to book a hotel room in the area for the week.

    Considerations

    • The camp program is staffed by educators at a ratio of one adult for every 12 campers. Camp Kennedy Space Center works to accommodate all children. Parents with special needs children should contact the center to discuss their specific situation. Camp is held at the Astronaut Hall of Fame's educational facilities, near the west entrance to the space center.
