Physical fitness is an important part of childhood development and a consistent exercise routine can be beneficial to the overall health of a child. When outdoor activity is prohibited due to poor weather conditions, lack of playing space or other obstacles, parents and teachers may need to turn to indoor activities to maintain a consistent exercise regimen for their children and students. Sardines is a game for children that can played indoors and promotes light physical activity. The game is played with groups of children and much like traditional hide and seek, one player hides while the rest of the kids try to find her. Sardines differs from hide and seek because rather than starting over when she is found, children quietly join the hiding child and wait until all but one child have gathered in the hiding spot to complete the game.
Ice Skating

A fun way for kids to exercise indoors is by creating a make-believe ice skating rink. Clear a large indoor area and cover with clear plastic using duct tape to secure the edges of the plastic to the floor. Thinly spread shaving cream over the plastic and allow children to slide back and forth or around barefoot across the room. If shaving cream is too messy for you, keep the plastic dry and attach wax paper covered paper plates to children's feet for neat and easy gliding.
