How to Lace a Shoe
If your child complains that his properly sized shoes don̵7;t fit right against his foot or his laces keep coming out of the eyelets, you may need to work on how you lace your child̵7;s shoes. Although you can lace a shoe in a variety of ways, this basic lacing method works for most kids' feet, in most situations. Once you̵7;ve laced your child̵7;s shoes properly, you can turn your focus to more important issues like teaching your child to tie his shoes before he runs out the door.
Things You'll Need
- Shoe
- 2 Shoelaces
Instructions
Start with the two eyelets that are closest to the toe section of your child̵7;s shoe. Slip the end of one shoelace through the top of one of these eyelets and out the back. Poke the other end of the shoelace through the top of the other bottom eyelet and pull it through the back. Grab both ends of the shoelaces, hold the tips together and pull them up toward you. Continue to pull until the shoelace ends are even with each other and the middle section of the shoelace is lying against the shoe. If there are any twists in the shoelace section that is laced, work those out so it sits smooth against the shoe. Take one end of the shoelace and cross it over to the other side. Poke the end through the underside of the second eyelet and pull it out the top. Grab the other end of the shoelace, cross it over to the other side and poke it through the hole in the same fashion. At this point, you should have one ̶0;X̶1; in the shoelace. Continue up the shoe making X̵7;s, crossing the shoelace to the other side and pulling the shoelace end from the underside of the eyelet and out the top. Stop when you have laced through the top two eyelets. Loosen the shoelaces and try the shoe on your child̵7;s foot. If the shoelaces are too tight on the top of the shoe, you can unlace one set of eyelets to make it more comfortable.
