How to Keep a Kid's Packed Lunch Warm
Having a warm meal waiting for you can make a long, winter school day much more bearable. So if you are sending your kids off to school with cooked lunches, make sure the food is still warm when they open it at lunch time. By using the correct tools and procedures, not only will your lovingly prepared lunch be at an appetizing temperature, but you can also feel confident that the food won't spoil before it is eaten.
Things You'll Need
- Saucepan
- Insulated thermos
- Insulated lunch sack
Instructions
Boil enough water in a saucepan to fill an insulated thermos. Pour the boiling water into the thermos and put the cover on, then let the container sit for five minutes. The boiling water will heat up the thermos so it stays as warm as possible. Heat up the liquid portion of the packed lunch to the highest temperature it can handle without scalding it. The hotter food is when you pack it, the longer it will stay warm. Remove the thermos cover and spill out the hot water. Immediately fill the thermos with the amount of heated food that you want to pack for lunch. Screw the cover back onto the thermos tightly to keep any of the food from leaking out. Place the thermos into an insulated lunch sack in an upright position. Arrange the rest of the food around the thermos. Keep the items packed as securely as possible to avoid the thermos tipping over.
