How to Help Children with Speech Problems

Every child develops at a different pace, and any child can have speech problems. Sometimes as a parent you may become a little frustrated when your child does not speak clearly and distinctly. Be patient and know that your child can and will learn to speak properly with your help.

      As a parent, you need to model the speech that you want you child to learn. If you speak at an easy to understand rate, your child will learn to mimic that. Alway have your child's hearing tested if they have a history or ear infection. If you child does not seem to hear you well, or tilts his head to hear when you speak to them, check with your pediatrician.

      When a child mispronounces a word, do get upset, just repeat the word correctly to the child. If you over react every time your child mispronounces a word, you can make them become self-conscience.

      If you notice that you child is having problems, such as stuttering, lisping or having problems reading, if it interferes with there school work, you may want to consider speech therapy.
