Choosing where to raise a family is a difficult decision for most parents. The cost of living, proximity to family and friends, crime rates and quality of area schools are some of the important things that many families consider when choosing where to raise their children. Each of these factors weigh differently on the minds of parents who are trying to find the perfect place to raise their children. "BusinessWeek" has published a list of the top-ranking states in the nation to raise children. Consider raising your family in one of these states.

  1. Alabama

    • Alabama is one of the best states in which to raise children. It is filled with wholesome Southern culture and is home to two of the best cities to raise a family: Huntsville and Dothan. Huntsville is home to a variety of educational and family friendly places to visit, such as the U.S. Space & Rocket Center and the Children's Garden & Nature Center, which is part of the Huntsville Botanical Garden. Huntsville has a population of 162,819 and a median household income of $69,000. Dothan, a small city with a population of only 63,921, is located in southern Alabama, less than 100 miles from Tallahassee, Florida. Tucson, located in southern Arizona, has a population of 523,006 and a median household income of $47,472. Tucson is home to over 100 public parks for children to enjoy. Gilbert is a smaller city with a population of 152,529 and is a suburb of Phoenix. Gilbert has one of the best school districts and lowest crime rates in the Phoenix metropolitan area.

Springdale is listed as the best city in the state to raise children.
