Located in the Western part of the United States, Phoenix, Arizona is renowned for its beautiful mountain peaks, forests, and rivers amidst a thriving city. The city is also known for its temperature, which during the summer months can climb past 100 degrees F. This can be hard on kids, especially since playing out doors is a quintessential part of the summer. One option for kids to find relief and have fun is to get involved in a summer program.   1. The City of Tuscon Kids Programs

    • The City of Tuscon sponsors numerous recreational programs for kids 12 and under. The youth program is broken down by the age of the kids. For kids ages three- to five-years-old, they can try the "Kid Kreation" preschool program. This program allows kids to go to a playschool for two mornings during the week where they will socialize, learn their numbers and ABCs and develop motor skills. The program is designated for kids who are potty trained, and every week a parent is required to service as an assistant teacher on a rotating basis. Kids who are three to five can also get involved in the "Busy-bodies Play and Learn Preschool Program." Held at the Quincie Douglas Center, this program is more of a structured preschool where kids will learn the alphabet, their numbers, shapes and colors through various songs, arts and crafts, games, and playing with peers. For this program, kids must also be potty trained and parent assistant is required for each class. Older kids (ages five to 11) can get involved with Tuscan's kid program. This is also an after school program, as well as a summer one where kids are involved with art projects, sports, events, and socialization in a safe environment. All programs are free, but parents must register their child in a timely manner in accordance with the program deadline.     Summer Camp for Kids and Teens at the University of Arizona

    • During the summer, the University of Arizona located in Tucson sponsors more than 30 programs for kids and teens. All programs have a specific focus that tap into a child's interest, such as mathematics, writing, astronomy, baseball, golf, track and field, and technology, to name a few. Some programs such as the 'A' Camp have programs for kids from age five to 12 is a general camp that has a low teacher to student ratio (1:8) where kids are involved with swimming, movies, kickball, arts and crafts, and themed days, such as pizza day. Another program for kids through the University is the DigiDudes and TechDivas, which is designed for kids who love technology from grade three to eight. Through the program, tech-savvy kids will be immersed in a world of activities, such as creating their own business, making a PowerPoint Presentation, creating advertisements and commercials, and their own tech reel.     • A summer camp for kids within the age of six to 14, JUMP! is an indoor play space in Tuscon where kids can play basketball, create arts and crafts projects, and dance. The program is supervised and organized by professionals who have experience with children that follow a structured day from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., five days a week. There is also an early drop-off option at 7:30 a.m. for an additional $5. The program is also flexible where families can sign up for one week, or the entire duration of the program (eight weeks). The program also provides lunch, and commences with a group movie, if approved by the parent.
