How to Help Neglected Children
What you say to children and how you treat them can affect them in their future lives. If a child is scarred from past hurts and disappointments, he could end up with problems in his adult life. Unfortunately, there are many children who have been neglected and and need help. There are some ways to help neglected children to heal so that they can lead a happier life mentally, physically and emotionally.
Instructions
Learn the warning signs of a neglected child. Some major signs of neglect of children include continual poor hygiene, filthy, ill-fitting or inappropriate clothing and children who are left unsupervised. Go to the website "Help Guide" to learn about different signs for child abuse and neglect (see Resources). Let the child know that his situation is not his fault. Encourage the child with positive words and spend quality time with him. Exercise patience with a neglected child. He may not accept the attention and love at first, due to feelings of rejection. Patience with a neglected child is essential. Report any neglect or abuse of a child. If you feel that a child is at risk, report it immediately. The website "Childhelp" has a "National Child Abuse Hot line" to help prevent child abuse (see Resources).
