Sports
-
Many boys are bursting at the seams to be involved in sports. Baseball, football, basketball and soccer are common sports that allow a boy's social skills to develop along with team spirit and cooperation. Sports give boys the necessary exercise they need in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle and weight control without feeling the drudgery of exercising. Sports also teaches boys rules and regulations and how to play correctly within the set boundaries.
Imaginative Play
-
Using their imaginations to role-play, allows boys to learn important social roles. Pretending to be a teacher, doctor, police officer or fireman allows a boy to explore the different responsibilities of each individual position. Leadership and listening skills can be taught and learned by including other children in pretend play. These tools will be useful when the boys are older and come into contact with authority figures.
Scavenger Hunt
-
Little boys love playing outside. Playing outside teaches them to appreciate nature. Lead them in a scavenger hunt at the beach. Depending on their ages, give each boy a list or take photographs of the things you would like him to find. Include things like a black shell, starfish or smooth rock. To add to the excitement, bury some plastic pirate coins and give the boys clues as to where to find them. The first one to find everything on the list is the winner. Be sure not to send the boys too far away unsupervised.
Water Balloon Volley Ball
-
On hot summer days little boys enjoy playing with cool water and getting soaked. Water balloons are an all time favorite. Step up the challenge by organizing a water balloon volleyball game. Set up a low string to act as a net. Divide the little boys into two teams and stretch out a sheet on each side of the string. Place five water balloons on the sheet, step back and listen to the laughter as the boys try to fling the water balloons from one side of the net to the other.
Three-legged Race
-
A three-legged race is sure to please a group of little boys. Divide everyone into pairs. Mark a starting line and a finish line. Tie the right leg and left leg of each pair together. Explain to the boys that the only way they stand a chance of winning is by cooperating. Have the pairs line up at the starting line. Let them know that when you yell "go" the must try and make it to the finish line while tied together. The first one to make it to the finish line wins.
