Quiz Games
-
Quiz games can be educational, but for kids ages four to five, they need to be visual to be effective. Instead of text questions with multiple answers to pick from, these quiz games have speech and pictures. A card would, for instance, ask the child to select the appropriate clothes to wear in cold weather or show two faces and ask which one shows the emotion mentioned. Create your own quiz games by cutting out pictures from magazines and pasting them on cardboard. Show two pictures at a time to the kids and ask the child to choose the correct one in answer to your question.
Shape Games
-
Shape games are great for stimulating the creativity of kids and helping them to distinguish between different shapes. This type of learning game also allows the child to create his own objects using different shapes. Letting the child play with shape games teaches him the names of the different shapes and the differences. Flash games that allow them to use shapes to make their own scene or sort different shapes are ideal. Alternatively, cut your own shapes from colored cardboard and ask the child to form new shapes from them or sort them.
Musical Games
-
To help kids distinguish the differences between musical instruments and teach them about notes, musical games are perfect. These games help them recognize high and low notes as well as what roles different instruments play. Musical games for kids four- to five-years-old are generally simple and feature catchy tunes and easy to remember sounds. The child interacts with these games by clicking on different instruments to hear their sound or even learn by singing along to educational songs. For a fun, group learning game, play the children different instrument sounds using a computer or CD player and ask them to guess the instruments.
Number Games
-
It is important to introduce young kids to numbers and math, but do this in a manner which is not complicated or overwhelming to them. Let the child play games where she has to count all the objects of the same kind shown in a scene or pick the numbers in the correct sequence. To help kids help with number recognition, create your own numerals on colorful cardboard and have a group activity where the kids have to sort the numbers, all numbers less than five on one side, for example.
