How to Create a Miniature Town Made From Boxes

Making a miniature town out of boxes is a fun craft that you can do with your children. This will give them a chance to create a town of their very own. You can create a traditional town with a police station, school, play ground, and houses. Little girls can also create a princess town or toon town. This is an all day project that is fun to do any time of the year especially on a rainy day.

Things You'll Need

  • Small boxes
  • Empty Milk and Juice Cartons
  • Glue
  • Glue Sticks
  • Scissors
  • Wrapping Paper
  • Construction Paper
  • Paint, Crayons or Makers
  • Large Slab of Cardboard
  • Tape
  • Popsicle Sticks
  • Pencils

Instructions

    • 1

Take your slab of cardboard and lay it down on the floor. Gather your boxes and all of your materials. Cover the boxes and cartons with construction paper and paste it onto the boxes with a glue stick. You could use blue construction paper for the police station.

    • 2

Cut out windows and doors with your scissors. You can also draw on windows and doors if you desire. If you want to avoid using too much paper you can also paint the boxes. Small children typically do best using only crayons and paper, whereas older children can paint the boxes.

    • 3

Create roofs for your miniatures houses and buildings. Take a piece of construction paper and simply fold it in half. Take another piece of paper and make shapes to fill in the empty sides of the paper. Tape or glue them together until you have a roof all in once piece. Glue the roofs on top of the boxes.

    • 4

Create trees, shrubs and road signs. Take your Popsicle sticks and glue on shapes for stop signs and other road signs. Cut out these shapes by drawing them onto the construction paper. You can also color your Popsicle sticks brown to make a tree trunk and then glue a green top on it to resemble a tree. You can cut out bushes or anything else you can think of with your construction paper.

    • 5

Arrange the miniature buildings wherever you like on the slab of cardboard. Think about where you want to place each building and sketch a road or grass around this area using a pencil. Then remove the boxes and draw a road and color in grass.

    • 6

Glue your mini houses onto the cardboard paper in the areas where you originally designated. Glue your trees, road signs and other shrubs onto the slab of cardboard as well. To help the trees and signs stand up straight make a small cut in the cardboard, place some glue inside and slide the Popsicle stick in while holding it for a minute or two while it dries. Now, its time to play. Have fun!
