How to Write a Childcare Newsletter
With more families relying on both parents in a household to work, families are relying more and more on enrolling their children in quality childcare. It is important that parents and guardians feel that they are kept aware of the happenings around the childcare facility so they can feel comfortable with where they are sending their children. A great way to include families in the community of the childcare is to provide a newsletter that will distribute timely information as well as be interesting for families.

Instructions
Know who you are writing for. As with all writing, it is important to consider your audience. It is doubtful that your primary audience will be the children, so it is important to focus your efforts at addressing the parents/guardians of the children in your care. Make the kids feel included. Even though your primary audience will not be the kids, it is important to make them feel like they are a part of it. Use colors that are bright and kid-friendly. Consider adding puzzles or games that the children will enjoy. This will help parents and kids get together when reading the newsletter, which will not only keep them informed, but provide an opportunity for closeness between parent and child. Make a list of the issues you would like to address. Perhaps you want to advise of upcoming events, provide a detailed calendar, address community issues, or simply provide fun and advice for families. Know why you are making the newsletter before planning the content. Consider breaking the newsletter into sections. Some examples are advice, news, childcare policy and arts/entertainment. Breaking the content into sections will help you narrow your focus and deliver quality content easily. Start writing. Don’t feel that the newsletter has to be completely dependent on your own words, though the majority will most likely be. Invite parents to include information and content to increase the community feel of the newsletter. Format your newsletter. Depending on how computer-savvy you are, you may choose to use different programs to format your newsletter. Most word processing programs offer free newsletter templates that will help guide the formatting process. If you would like to make your newsletter a higher quality, consider hiring a professional to help you with the format. Include photos. Parents and children alike love to see smiling faces in print. Take photos around the center on a regular basis and during special events and include them in the newsletter, even if they are just in black and white. Previous:How to Make an Eggshell Mosaic
