Children's Eucharist Activities
The Eucharist is a central tenet of Christianity and refers to the Holy Communion, a sacrament in which bread and wine are consumed to pay respect to Jesus Christ's death. Whether your children are raised in a Catholic, Protestant or Orthodox Christian household, you'll want to teach them to honor Jesus's sacrifice through age-appropriate activities. Several Eucharist activities you can have them engage in to assist in the learning process.

Coloring Books
-
Most young children love to color and an effective way to familiarize them with the Eucharist is through coloring books. Give them a box of crayons and a coloring book filled with Eucharist-related images and they'll enjoy coloring the pictures while developing an idea about themes related to the Eucharist. A good coloring book might include illustrations of a chalice, ciborium and monstrance, among other designs.
Puzzles
-
Word-search puzzles are an excellent activity for younger children and will introduce them to words and concepts associated with the Eucharist. Younger children might seek out words like wine, bread and altar, while older kids should search for words such as benediction, consecration, genuflection and tabernacle. Word scrambles, in which children must unscramble letters in order to complete sentences, are another fun and educational challenge. Crossword puzzles are wonderful for older children.
Arts and Crafts
-
Have your child put together a banner using a firm cloth like felt or canvas or an old bed sheet. Buttons, ribbons and strings can be glued on to form words and images. Markers and fabric or acrylic paint can also be used. Alternatively, use cardboard or poster board to create posters. Gather string and beads to have your child assemble rosaries or use wooden craft sticks and glue to fashion into crucifixes.
Activities for the Family
-
Fill a bowl with water and have family members bless themselves before each meal. Use dinnertime as an opportunity to discuss the Last Supper and share good things that have happened during the day. Talk about your baptism and the positive effects it has had on your life. Purchase a children's Bible and take turns reading a story out loud every night.
