Church Skit Ideas

Church skits help entertain congregation members and teach important lessons in the process. Some skits will be geared toward the children in the church family or another specific group within the church. Other skits will speak to the congregation as a whole. Some churches use skits to deliver announcements or to highlight a particular event, while other churches use skits to illustrate a lesson or concept from the sermon.

  1. Children's Skits

    • Implement a children's skit into a general church service or a children's church service. Use the skit to illustrate a Bible story such as Noah's Ark or to help educate children on a concept such as respect or love. Use simple language and props to bring the message across. Children's skits should be short and should feature simple language so youngsters can easily comprehend the message. Involve the young audience in the skit by asking them questions and getting them to participate in some capacity.

    Youth Skits

    • Youth group students can be involved in the writing or the skit, as well as gathering props or making costumes. Tween and teen students can even act in the performance for an audience of their peers, a younger group of kids or the general church service. Youth skits written for a tween and teen audience should address problems they face in real life such as peer pressure or self-esteem issues.

    Adult Skits

    • Use adult skits to illustrate a sermon or to make an announcement about an upcoming event. Adult skits can be more abstract in nature than those geared toward a younger audience. Fewer props and costumes are needed as most adults can think abstractly and don't need as many visual cues. Adult skits can illustrate a sermon topic such as loving your neighbor or can illustrate a specific Bible story such as the story of Adam and Eve.

    Other Church Skit Ideas

    • Congregation members can use skits outside of the church building at street fairs, special events such as festivals or conferences. Youth group members and Sunday School children can perform a skit at a retirement home or hospital to entertain or minister to the residents or patients.
