How to Apply Bio-Identical Hormone Cream

Bio-identical hormone cream is used to balance the body's naturally occurring hormones. Hormones such as estrogen and progesterone dominate the reproductive cycle. Bio-identical estrogen is used in the early part of the menstrual cycle, prior to ovulation, and bioidentical progesterone is used after ovulation, during the luteal phase of the cycle. These hormones are applied directly to the body and absorbed through the skin.

Things You'll Need

  • Bio-identical estrogen cream
  • Bio-identical progesterone cream

Instructions

    • 1

Start using the estrogen cream on the first day of full flow of the menstrual period. On cycle day 10, or 10 days after the start of the period, begin using progesterone cream. Estrogen and progesterone should be taken together only, or an imbalance may be created which will worsen menopause symptoms.

    • 2

Apply bio-identical hormone creams to the neck, belly or thighs. Rotate between sites daily. Apply 1/2 to 1mg of bio-identical estrogen 4 to 5 times per week. For progesterone cream, use 1/4 tsp. daily.

    • 3

Continue applying both estrogen and progesterone creams until cycle day 26, or 26 days after the start of the last menstrual period. On day 26, stop applying the creams and allow menstruation to occur.
