Museum Fun
-
Your baby will have plenty to take in at the Museum of Life and Science in Durham. Take her on a stroll through the Magic Wings Butterfly House, where she can watch hundreds of butterflies fly among the tropical plants. At the Play to Learn exhibit, your baby will be able to play with blocks, toy animals and art supplies. There are loads of interactive exhibits at Raleigh's Marbles Kids Museum, where your little one can explore woodland critters and practice crawling, walking and balancing at the Toddlers Hollow.
Animal Adventures
-
Your baby will enjoy observing the 1,600 animals of the North Carolina Zoo as you take him strolling along the 5 miles of shaded pathways. Approximately 500 acres of exhibits resembling natural habitats and boasting wildlife from two different continents will delight and educate your little one. North Carolina is also home to four aquariums -- Roanoke Island, Pine Knoll Shores, Fort Fisher and Jennette's Pier -- where your baby can take in the sights of sea life found in North Carolina's aquatic environments.
Library Action
-
With dozens and dozens of public libraries throughout North Carolina, finding a story time or baby-friendly activity suitable for your little one is no problem. At the Henderson County branches, your little one can attend one of the library's special events -- including puppet shows, live music and animal exhibits -- or a weekly story time with lap rhymes, songs and movement geared for babies. The Wake County branches offer a similar lap-sit story time for the littlest tots.
Get Outside
-
Take your baby to the scenic Blue Jay Point County Park, a 236-acre park filled largely with forestlands. The park is bordered on three sides by Raleigh's Falls Lake, making it an ideal place for your baby to dip her toes. Pack a picnic to enjoy in one of the shady picnic areas. The Marla Dorrel Park in Cary consists of a vibrant Kids Together park and playground area and picnic shelter. The playground contains three age-appropriate play zones, meaning that your baby will have his own area to explore that includes infant swings, playhouses and a river of sand complete with sand scoopers.
