Week 4 of Pregnancy

So your blastocyst has parked itself on your uterine wall and it has split in two – one side will become the embryo, and the other side will become the placenta. This teeny ball of cells is about the size of a poppy seed – a fact I will be reminded of every time I eat a bagel with cream cheese from now on.

You may start to feel some pregnancy symptoms around this time thanks to the surge of progesterone and estrogen in your system, like sore boobs, bloating and general pissyness similar to PMS.

There’s also a small chance that you could experience implantation bleeding which is just a little spotting around the time you would have normally gotten your period. Only a few women experience this light bleeding and it doesn’t have any impact on your pregnancy, so don’t let it throw you.

So we’ve had zygote, blastocyst, and now embryo. Next stop, fetus!
