How to Boil Pacifiers to Clean Them

Almost all babies require a pacifier for some period of time. Keeping a pacifier clean can be tricky, as babies have a tendency to throw or drop the pacifier, exposing it to a world of germs. If you're concerned about the cleanliness of your child's pacifier and want to make sure it's free of germs, boil the pacifier to sterilize it.

Things You'll Need

  • Water
  • Pan
  • Tongs
  • Paper towels

Instructions

      Pour water into a pan large enough to accommodate the items to be boiled, such as bottle nipples and pacifiers. Don't worry if you have to use tap water; you will boil the water and any germs or bacteria will be killed.

      Place the pacifiers and nipples to be boiled in the pan and then set the pan on an available burner on your stove. Set the burner to apply medium to high heat. Let the water rise to a boil and then let the water boil for two minutes to kill any germs on the items you are boiling. Turn off the burner and let the items sit in the water for five minutes.

      Remove the pacifiers and nipples using a pair of tongs and then place the pacifiers and nipples on a paper towel to dry and cool completely. After the items have cooled, you can immediately resume using them again.
