Things to Do with a 9-Month-Old Baby
Most 9-month-old babies have recently become mobile; crawling or creeping around and discovering the world will be a priority. A few babies may even be walking at this age. The world offers so many exciting opportunities and babies should be exposed to as much as possible. Activities and games should encourage movement and self-discovery as well as stimulate the senses.

Physical Activity
-
A 9-month-old will love activities that encourage movement. Roll a ball to him and allow him to squat down and catch it. Then, invite him to roll it back to you. Hold him under his arms and help him bounce up and down. Play peek-a-boo, hiding behind couches and chairs. Take him to a pool and while holding him, encourage him to kick and wave his arms. Practice these moves in the bathtub as well. The new texture of the water will provide a whole new type of stimulation.
Promote Visual Spatial Skills
-
Because she is just starting to know how to move objects in and out of a container, stacking rings and cups, blocks that fit into other blocks and pots and pans of various sizes will be the perfect playthings, says BabyCenter.com. Offer brightly colored plastic containers that make gentle sounds when banged together. She will also love to turn knobs, open and close doors and play with toys that have moving parts.
Promote Literacy
-
Now that he is imitating sounds and will be able to remember familiar objects, picture books with rhymes and songs are excellent choices for bedtime stories. Reading books on a regular basis contributes to strong literacy skills and serves as an excellent vocabulary builder.
Play Groups
-
By 9 months, her cooing and babbling sounds are getting ready to turn into words, her physical abilities are taking off and she is ready for social interaction, says What To Expect.com. Enrolling in a play group will allow the baby to see other children play, to interact with new toys and to begin "parallel play," which is when a baby plays alongside another.
