Indoor Activities for Babies in Georgia

The state of Georgia -- with its lively cities and scenic coastline -- has much to offer both locals and tourists when it comes to family-friendly attractions. You can find plenty of fun activities that will both encourage your baby's development and entertain him throughout this energetic Southern state.

  1. Atlanta Area

    • Located a short drive north of Atlanta, Interactive Neighborhood for Kids, Inc. in Gainesville is a hands-on children's museum with baby-friendly activities. In the family playhouse exhibit, your baby can explore, toddle, and crawl through the colorful modular system and brightly colored maze. The dozens of branches in the Atlanta-Fulton library system offer a plethora of indoor activities for babies. Bring your little one along to a baby story time where you can read, sing and play together. In addition to reading fun, the library is a place to go for baby-friendly events such as live animal exhibits and interactive music-making programs.

    Augusta Area

    • Children as young as age 6 can participate in the Little Friends Gym program at the Warren Road Community Center in Augusta. The activities in the program support language development and encourage physical activity. Children also have opportunities to explore equipment and engage in free play. Just to the north of Augusta is the city of Martinez, where you and your baby can participate in a Musikgarten class, which involves music and movement activities that aid in memory and language development, as well as foster physical coordination.

    Savannah

    • Your baby will delight at the sights of the UGA Public Aquarium in the scenic city of Savannah. The 16 exhibit tanks display fish and turtles from habitats along the Georgia coast. You can also take your baby to visit the Georgia State Railroad Museum -- located at the old Central of Georgia Railway Savannah Shops and Terminal Facilities -- believed to be the largest railroad repair facility still in existence in the world, according to the Coastal Heritage Society's website. Here, you can enjoy a nostalgic "choo-choo" train ride together on a real steam engine.

    Macon

    • The Georgia Children's Museum offers plenty of indoor programs for your baby. Enjoy a special craft time for little ones on the last Thursday of the month, or bring your baby to a story time on the first and third Tuesday of each month. There's plenty to stimulate your baby's senses at Macon's Museum of Art and Sciences. Experience interactive exhibits with your little one in tow, exploring the origins of music, touring the art on display, taking in the sights and sounds of the prehistoric era, as well as visiting the mini-zoo exhibit that includes 70 live animals.
