How to Get Free Baby Stuff for the Needy
Babies need many different items for comfort, basic care and safety. Car seats, strollers, high chairs, baby gates and diapers are all necessities for infant care. Many of these are high priced items -- and they can be out of reach for new parents -- especially when the parents do not have access to the funds.
Instructions
Contact local businesses. Inquire as to their willingness to host a donation barrel, or ask if there are any products they could donate. Some businesses will enjoy the chance for free advertising by donating store brand items. Smaller businesses may be more willing to assist with collecting donations. Attempt to place barrels in high-traffic areas and label the barrels with the name of the organization. Set up a volunteer group to organize donated items. After the barrels are full, bring each barrel to a central location and arrange items into piles to create baby care packages for the needy. Volunteers can fill diaper bags or baby baskets with items. Volunteers will also be needed to move the care packages to donation centers for distribution to needy families. Contact the Salvation Army. Often, this organization will accept donations for families in need. Ask where donations are currently being accepted and if the local chapter will accept the pre-made baby packages. If the local Salvation Army is not currently accepting donations, inquire as to other organizations which may be able to distribute the baby items. Call the local branch of Social Services. Social Services is an organization which helps and protects children, families, the elderly, poor and mentally challenged individuals. The local office may accept the baby packages, as they are in constant contact with needy individuals in the community. While Social Services almost always accepts donations, they will know agencies in need if they are currently unable to accept baby items.
