How to Calculate a Baby's Height & Weight Percentage

Calculating a baby's height of weight percentile gives you a comparison against the height and weight of other babies. The percentile offers the percentage of recorded babies, of similar age group, that weigh less than, or whose height is less than, a specific amount. As an example, if your baby's weight percentile was 70 percent, then 70 percent of babies weight less than your baby, and 30 percent weight more.

Things You'll Need

  • Tape measure
  • Pediatric weight scale

Instructions

    • 1

Weight your baby by laying her on a pediatric weight scale and reading the weight display. The baby should be naked to avoid skewing the results with clothing. Wait until your baby remains still for more accurate readings.

    • 2

Measure your baby's length by laying his head so it just touches a wall, and laying his legs out-stretched. Record the distance from the wall to the bottom of the baby's feet in inches.

    • 3

Enter the values in an online calculator, such as those from Pregnancy Today, Baby Center or Infant Chart, to see how she compares to other babies. You will also have to enter your baby's exact age, or birth date and gender. Click "Calculate" to acquire the percentile.
