There are also some other added benefits to using cloth such as extra comfort, anti fungal and anti bacterial properties.

It also absorbs moisture, thus giving the baby a dry and cool feeling. Also, the bamboo fabric is soft and silky, and stays soft even after many washes.     Fleece

    • Fleece is a synthetic fabric. It has an altered structure that facilitates the transfer of moisture to the fabric. It wicks moisture away from the skin to its outer surface. Fleece is best known for its soft and comfortable character. Other characteristics of the fleece include the fact that it is highly breathable, lightweight, pill-resistant, stain-proof, easy to clean and fast drying.     Sherpa

    • Sherpa fabric is known for its softness and absorbency. It is made up of 75 percent cotton and 25 percent polyester, or 80 percent cotton and 20 percent polyester. It is a knit terry fabric, and it has the appearance of a tightly woven towel that has been brushed after washing. This fabric is durable enough to withstand industrial washing and cleaning. It is also plush, thick, absorbent and stretchable.

    Wool

    • Wool is best known for its moisture absorbency and breathability. Although it's not used for the diaper, it is used to make waterproof diaper covers. Wool consists of overlapping cuticles that repel water droplets. Beneath the cuticles are a highly porous core that stores water droplets of up to 30 percent of its weight. Just as wool keeps sheep dry, it keeps babies dry. The fabric also has a natural antibacterial property. The wool used in diaper covers may require handwashing in a wool wash, and periodic lanolizing to enhance its waterproof properties.

    Hemp

    • Hemp has a naturally anti-microbial property. It protects the baby's skin from bacteria, mold, mildew and fungus. This means less diaper rash. It is also breathable due to its porous nature. Thus, this fabric is cool in summer and warm in winter. To reduce the stiffness and roughness that pure hemp possesses, hemp fabric usually contains 55 percent hemp and 45 percent cotton. When compared to pure cotton, hemp fabric is stronger, more durable and more absorbent.

    Cotton Birdseye

    • Cotton birdseye weave is made of 100 percent cotton fabric and is woven from small, fine yarns in a way that results in a soft, quick drying, absorbent diaper. Because it is made from cotton, it is easy to wash and reuse and does not require the special care that some of the other fabrics require. They are also fairly inexpensive, with a dozen birdseye flat-fold diapers costing around $19 as of 2011.
