On a Roll

On a Roll

Time

  • 5 to 10 minutes

Materials

  • Small baby blanket

Directions

  1. Babies learn to roll over on their own and don't need to be taught, but you can help to strengthen the muscles involved by laying your baby on her side and providing support from behind with a rolled up blanket.
  2. Lay down adjacent to your baby and encourage reaching for you. Eventually, she will topple forward and be able to do so at will.

Extensions

  • When your baby can roll on her own, tempt repetitions with a favorite toy or by smiling and talking.
  • As your baby rolls over, gently roll her back so the movement is repeated, making it a game and talking about what you are doing as you go back and forth.
