How to Create a Baby Touch Sensory Craft
Babies use all of their senses to explore and learn about the world around them. By surrounding them with toys and activities that engage multiple senses, parents and caregivers can help little ones develop motor skills, improve cognitive growth and even increase their vocabulary. You can create a sensory bag for your baby that is interesting to look at, touch and talk about, using items you have at home or can easily obtain.
Things You'll Need
- Large zip-top baggie
- Packing or duct tape
- Small, colorful, water-resistant objects, such as plastic toys, buttons or beads
- Squishy medium, such as hair gel, liquid soap or lotion
- Optional: Food coloring, glitter or other embellishments
Instructions
Pour the small toys or other objects into the bag. Use a variety of shapes and colors that will hold your baby's attention. A small amount of objects is sufficient. Add glitter or other "extras," if desired. Fill the baggie with hair gel, soap or another substance so that the bag is full but not bulging. Add food coloring, if desired. Release any air from the bag and zip the baggie closed. Seal the zip-top of the baggie with one or two strips of packaging or duct tape. Tape the other three sides of the bag as well, if desired. If you are using colorful tape, taping all four sides gives the sensory toy extra appeal. Squeeze the baggie to spread the objects around and distribute the food coloring, if you used it. Give the bag to your baby during tummy time or other play time. Talk about the different shapes, colors and objects. Watch your little one explore, learn and have fun.
