Safety Themed Preschool Activities & Crafts Suitable for Toddlers
It is important to teach your toddler about safety as he grows up. Though he may be very young, it is never too early to teach him ways to be safe and protect himself to avoid dangerous situations. Particular activities and crafts will help him gain a better understanding of safety.

Traffic Lights
-
Tape the cover of a shoe box to the bottom of the box. Cover the box with black construction paper. Provide the toddler with pieces of red, green and yellow construction paper. Help him cut a large circle out of each. Explain to him the correct order of colors on traffic lights and what each color means for drivers and pedestrians. Red is the top light, yellow is the middle light and green is the bottom light. Have the toddler glue the circles in the correct order on the box.
Fire Truck
-
Cut the lid off an egg carton. Have the toddler paint the lid red. Help the toddler cut out four small circles and a ladder shape from black construction paper. Once the lid is completely dry, have the toddler glue the black circles to the bottom of the lid to represent wheels and the ladder on the top left. On the top right, have the toddler glue a small picture of himself as if he were the firefighter driving the truck. Explain to him that fire trucks arrive to help put out fires at people's homes.
First Aid Kit
-
Purchase several first-aid items such as gauze and bandages. Cover a shoe box in white construction paper. Have the toddler cut a cross shape out of red construction paper and glue the cross to the top of the shoe box. Write the toddler's name under the cross. Open the box and have the toddler place the gauze and bandages in the box. Explain to him that if he hurts himself while playing, he can get an adult to use the items in the first aid kit to help him.
Emergency Calling
-
Purchase a toy phone. Since your toddler may not recognize numbers yet, use colored stickers on the phone. Put a small red sticker on number nine and a small green sticker on number one. Have him press the red sticker once and the green sticker twice. He will remember the number 911 as "red, green, green." Explain to the toddler that 911 is only called in case of an emergency, for example, when someone gets hurt badly or there is a fire.
