How to Potty Train a Boy Fast
Looking forward to the time when your son (and you) will be finished with diapers? Many parents try to potty train when the child is between the ages of two and three. This is when children develop a curiosity about the toilet and may try to imitate what they see adults do. Save time and money by going right to underwear instead of "pull ups."
Instructions
Buy several pairs of boy's underwear with cartoon characters, cars, trucks or whatever your son likes. Children get excited at the thought of wearing "big kid" clothes when they get to be about three years old. If you do buy pull ups, save them to use only when the child will be in the care of other people. Buy a beginning potty and place it in the bathroom next to the big potty. Encourage the child to try it out and show him how to sit on it properly. If the child is big enough to sit on the big toilet, place a step or box in front of the toilet to help him get on and off the toilet without falling. Older boys who have been resistant to potty training may copy an older brother or father and may prefer to use the big potty as they do. If necessary, discuss your child's potty training schedule with day-care staff and babysitters. Plan for the occasional accident and pack extra clothing. Make sure to bring items that are easy to change into quickly, with no complicated snaps or buttons. Make potty training a habit. Every morning when the child gets up put him on the potty. During the day take him to the toilet every 2 hours and try to get him to sit long enough to use it. If he does use the toilet properly, praise him and make a big deal of it. Children like praise and are more likely to do things that gain them positive attention. Eliminate drinks one hour before bedtime. Take the child to the potty before bed to empty his bladder. If he wakes during the night, get him up and try to get him to use the potty. This will help keep his sheets and pajamas dry during the night. If the training is consistent, your child should be completely potty trained in a week or less.
