Toddler Classes

• The Parker Recreation Department (parkeronline.org) has classes for toddlers and parents throughout the year. Parents and toddlers can take Crocodile Rock, a music class that encourages dancing, singing and playing instruments. Giggle Time, another class for toddlers, includes obstacle courses and physical movement along with singing. Story time classes are available for those who are 2 and 3 years old, and a special class is offered just for kids to work on learning their shapes and colors. Families register on a month-to-month basis.

Story Time

• Another toddler activity is story time at the Douglas County Library System's Parker branch (douglascountylibraries.org). The story time lasts for 30 minutes and includes songs, stories and a craft. Toddlers can also attend the all-ages story time for kids 5 years of age and younger.

Swimming

• Families in Parker have two options for swimming lessons: Dolphinz Swim School (dolphinzswimschool.com) and the recreation center (parkeronline.org). Dolphinz Swim School has indoor saltwater pools where toddlers can have lessons year-round. Children age 16 to 36 months are grouped together for classes with their parents. The recreation center provides lessons at their indoor pool during the colder months and lessons at their outdoor pool in the summer. The outdoor pool, called the H2O'Brien pool, has water slides, a spray garden and a play structure. Toddlers can also take advantage of the Little Squirts time at the outdoor pool, where younger children are the only ones allowed in.

The Wildlife Experience

• Toddlers and their parents will learn a lot at the Wildlife Experience (thewildlifeexperience.org), a museum that aims to connect natural history, fine art and media. Interactive exhibits cover animals and their habitats, and a movie theater provides educational movies. Toddlers will especially love the Cub's Corner, an interactive learning area created just for kids 5 years of age and younger. They will be able to listen to books, solve puzzles, build, do arts and crafts, and dress up animals.

Parks

• The town of Parker operates nine parks, some of which will make a fine outing for toddlers. Auburn Hills Community Park has outdoor educational stations that might appeal to toddlers, including a butterfly garden. O'Brien Park has a playground and a gazebo where summer concerts occur. Railbender Skate and Tennis Park also has a playground, in addition to its skateboarding and tennis amenities. The Stroh Ranch Soccer Fields have a playground that toddlers will enjoy. Finally, Tallman Meadow Park has two playground areas and a connection to a walking trail.
