What Does Eau Claire, Wisconsin Have for Toddlers to Do?

Eau Claire is in northwest Wisconsin. Located about 85 miles east of the enormous Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area, Eau Claire has more than 65,000 residents. Families can find lots of activities to keep themselves busy here in all seasons. Even toddlers have many choices of fun places to experience in the city.

  1. Museums

    • The Children's Museum of Eau Claire is designed for kids under 10. There are a number of interactive exhibits, including a gigantic model of the human body to explore, a kid-sized community featuring a market and post office, a water-play area in the basement and a large toddler park with structures for bouncing and climbing intended for children under the age of four. The Paul Bunyan Logging Camp Museum, only two miles from the Children's Museum, is a replica of a nineteenth century working camp. You can visit buildings such as the barn, the blacksmith shop and the bunkhouse. Paul's Tall Tales Room has interactive exhibits and games. Kids also come face to face with large figures of Paul and his blue ox, Babe.

    Activities

    • All members of the family can have fun at the Chaos Waterpark. Toddlers can play in the activity pool, hitch a ride with a parent on the lazy river or play in the tunnels and spray in the toddler section, Mayhem Bay. For a calmer activity, take your toddler on a miniature steam- and gasoline-powered train sponsored by the Chippewa Valley Railroad Association. Located in Carson Park, the half-mile trip passes through the woods and next to Half Moon Lake and is available on Sundays and holidays throughout the summer months.

    Nature Parks

    • Eau Claire county has several parks where families with toddlers can experience the outdoors. For example, Big Falls County Park has waterfalls and allows wading in the river. Lake Altoona County Park has a beach area. Toddlers can go on the playground at Lake Eau Claire County Park, and L.L. Phillips County Park offers a short nature trail through the woods. Families can also camp at Coon Fork Lake County Park and Harstad County Park. The parks are also open for winter activities.

    Community Activities

    • The Eau Clarie Downtown Farmer's Market is open May through October, and you can expose your toddler to a wide range of crops, foods and plants throughout the season. Some days, local musicians perform at the market. Art activities for kids are also available on Wednesdays. For a restful break, go to story time at the L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library. You can just drop in for the toddler session; no registration is required.
