Youth Leadership Training Programs

Leadership training for youth is typically designed to empower young people to take a leadership role in their schools and communities, while developing their personal leadership skills. Youth leadership training is available for young people across the nation. The following list of youth leadership training programs is just a small sample of the leadership programs available in the United States. Youth leadership programs are also available for special populations, such as "at-risk" teens.

  1. National Youth Conference on Mastering Leadership

    • Mastering Leadership

      The leadership training provided by the National Youth Conference on Mastering Leadership involves an intensive six-day program designed to develop strengths and confidence in young leaders. The NYCML is for 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grade students with at least a "B" average. As of the summer of 2010, tuition for this six-day program was $1,695. National Youth Conference on Mastering Leadership was scheduled to be held at the following locations in 2010: Chicago, Illinois, at the University of Chicago, June 24 through June 29 and July 2 through July 7, 2010; San Francisco, California, at the University of California Berkeley, July 12 through July 17 and July 20 through July 25, 2010; Washington, District of Columbia, at the University of Maryland: June 20 -through June 25, June 28 through July 3, and July 6 through July 11.     Lead for Diversity

    • Diversity leadership training

      Lead for Diversity, offers a week-long peer leadership program for high school and college students, which focuses on diversity in New Jersey and is presented by the American Conference on Diversity Youth Leadership Institute. Across the state of New Jersey, "each participating school hand-selects a delegation of students that displays an interest in diversity and inter-group relations, motivation, and leadership abilities." The program includes interactive workshops, small group experiences, and experiential learning. Participants will gain the skills required for successful peer leadership and conflict resolution.     Youth Empowerment Seminar (YES!)

      The Youth Empowerment Seminar presented by the Art of Living Foundation, teaches participants the techniques to use for stress relief in order to become more focused and make better decisions. Other activities include group discussions and games to experience the mind-body connection and improve communication with others. In 2010, the Youth Empowerment Seminar was scheduled to be held in Atlanta, Georgia, July 8 through July 11 from 6 to 9 p.m. on weekdays and 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekends.
