Unique Baby Girl Shower Ideas

Baby showers became a tradition following World War II, at least in the form we know today. When you throw a party, you want the guests to have a good time and to remember the extra something that made your baby shower different and special. If you want to host a baby shower, come up with a theme that is not overused. Since so many parents today know if they are having a boy or a girl, you can choose a shower theme that will be unique and memorable for the mom-to-be of a special baby girl.

  1. Queen of the Jungle

    • Jungle themes are not necessarily new, but they tend to be used for boy showers. Do not let this scare you away from a jungle theme for a baby girl. Many jungle characters have a more cartoonish feel, which means there can be pink tigers and purple leopards. Use pink and purple table settings, with jungle animals as centerpieces. Use medium-sized stuffed animals, such as tigers and leopards, as balloon weights on the corner of the gift and food tables.

    • On the surface this theme might not seem to be specific to a girl's shower, but think about girls traveling to romantic spots in Paris and London. This theme can be more sophisticated and elegant, if you want. Display large posters of the Eiffel Tower and Big Ben. Or choose the mother-to-be's favorite metropolitan cities. Options could include New York City, Sydney or any other city she wishes to visit. Basing the party on the mom's likes can be a great success.

    English Tea Party

    • Tea parties are girly. Decorate the room with pink and white roses and rosebuds. Use pretty linens and table settings. This theme lends itself to pretty sundresses and easy-to-serve finger sandwiches. Have a local bakery make individual petit fours with a baby theme on top. If possible, give pink and white picture frames as party favors, so the guests will have a place to put the first picture of the baby girl.

    Future Shopaholic

    • Most women love to shop. If the mommy-to-be is a serious shopper, create a shopaholic theme. Use pretty shopping bags to decorate. Weigh them down, and attach balloons to give height to the decorating. Find decorations that feature high-heeled shoes, which works perfectly with this theme. If you are on a budget, ask local stores such as the Gap, American Eagle, Macy's or even Victoria Secret for empty bags. Keep the mom's shopping favorites in mind as you create this theme.

    • Have each guest design a onesie or T-shirt for the new baby while at the shower. You'll need white (or light pink) onesies and fabric paint and other clothing embellishments. Set up a table for the guests to make their own creation.
