Ways to Say I'm Expecting a Baby

You've been waiting with baited breath to find out if you're going to have a baby. Now that your doctor -- or at-home pregnancy test -- has just proclaimed you positively pregnant, you can't wait to share your good news with family and friends. If the news is not a topic of casual conversation for you, you may want to come up with a creative approach.

  1. Fortune Cookie

    • Take your hubby, family and whomever else you wish to tell of your news to a Chinese restaurant or have some take-out delivered to your place. After dinner, make sure everyone takes a turn to read their fortune cookie. Ask each guest to read it aloud. At your turn, crack open the cookie and pull out your fortune. Of course, you won't have your news printed on the paper inside your cookie -- you'll simply read it with your own announcement such as, "A new bundle of joy will grace your lives soon." Let your face tell the rest of the story -- with tears, a smile or a look of peace and joy.

    • With the advent of YouTube, anyone can be a video star or broadcaster. Create a video to announce your upcoming baby, and -- depending on your creativity level or software -- add cute titles and pictures to help tell your story. For instance, videotape yourself baking a delicious treat, set to music. Show the ingredients and the actual step-by-step preparation instructions such as adding flour to the bowl, cracking the egg, blending the milk and then pouring into a pan. When the dough has been baked, show the bun rising through the oven door with a title that reads, "We've got a bun in the oven."

    Singing Telegram

    • If you enjoy a good sense of humor, call a singing telegram company and ask them to send a "big baby" to your family or friends' front door. Ideally, the "baby" will be a large, portly man dressed in a diaper with a big baby bonnet and carrying a large rattle or a pacifier. If you're creatively inclined, write a customized song for the "baby" to sing upon arrival, or ask the singing telegram company what they suggest, since it is their specialty. Make sure the telegram includes the words, "We're expecting a baby" in the lyrics.

    Social Network Status Update

    • Announce your good news on your favorite social networking website. It is one way to get the news traveling like wildfire. Simply update your status with a cute, short comment such as, "I'm looking up baby names. Anyone have any ideas?" or "I have a bun in the oven," or "New baby's coming on board." Change your profile picture to your sonogram picture, a baby rattle, a diaper or a bottle. You can even take a picture of your at-home pregnancy indicator test and use the positive results as your profile picture or avatar.
