Hospital Packing List for an Expectant Mom
Eight months into pregnancy, an expectant mother should begin to prepare a bag to take to the hospital. If you go into early labor, it's best to be prepared. Having all the essentials with you will make everything go smoother and eliminate the need for others to run home and get things for you.

Pair of Pajamas
-
A hospital might require you to wear a hospital gown during the actual birth, but it will be nice to have your own pajamas to change into. They should be loose-fitting pajamas that open in the front, so you can nurse your baby.
Sanitary Pads
-
Vaginal bleeding will likely continue after giving birth, so highly absorbent sanitary pads are necessary. This is a good reason to also bring underwear that has full coverage, so the pads can be attached to them.
Bathrobe and Slippers
-
You never know how long your hospital stay will be, so it's a good idea to bring a robe and slippers for walking the hospital halls. These items are also good to have when visiting the nursery.
Toiletries
-
Pack toothpaste, a toothbrush, a hairbrush and some light makeup items. You may want the makeup for guests who come to visit at the hospital. Bring toiletries for your baby, also. Diapers, baby wipes and baby powder should be in your hospital bag.
Going Home Outfits
-
Pack outfits for both the baby and yourself. Your clothes should be loose fitting and comfortable, since you'll still be carrying extra weight. The baby's outfit should include a hat to keep his head warm. Don't forget shoes for you and your baby.
Car Seat
-
Although it will not go into the hospital bag, it's important to install a car seat at the same time you start packing your hospital bag. Take time to install the car seat correctly so your baby travels home safely.
