Healthy Weight When Planning a Pregnancy
Being at a healthy weight can help you conceive, have a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby.
Up to three months before trying to get pregnant is a great time to start taking steps toward a healthier lifestyle.
Not sure if you're at a healthy weight? You can use the Body Mass Index (BMI) calculator to see if it's in the normal range for your height. Generally, people with a BMI of 18.5 to 25 have the lowest risk of developing health problems.
BMI is simple, but it's not a perfect measurement and does not apply to children (18 and under) or pregnant women. It can also provide misleading information for some groups, such as those who are very muscular, giving a high number even where your weight is healthy for you.
If you have questions about your weight, talk to your healthcare provider.
