How to Wash bumGenius Diapers
If you're new to using cloth bumGenius brand diapers, you may have questions about how to wash them. All cloth diapers should be washed in laundry detergent that is free of additives, dyes, enzymes, and perfumes to avoid damaging the diaper or decreasing absorbency. BumGenius advises that all new diapers should be washed at least once in hot water before the first use to remove fabric residue and to make the diapers more absorbent.
Things You'll Need
- Additive-free laundry detergent

Washing bumGenius Diapers
For all-in-one style diapers, first remove the inserts from the pouch inside. Fasten tabs on the two hook and loop sections. These are found on the inside at the back of the diaper. Place the separated parts of the diaper inside the washing machine, including covers and inserts. Begin a cold wash, using a quarter cup of additive-free laundry detergent for high efficiency machines, or half a cup for standard top loading washers. Allow all washing and rinsing cycles to completely finish. Begin a hot wash, using a quarter to a half cup of additive-free laundry detergent. The amount used will again depend on the type of washing machine; high-efficiency machines require less detergent. Allow all washing and rinses cycles to completely finish. Add an extra rinse cycle to ensure all detergent is removed from the diapers. Hang on the line to dry. BumGenius suggests that products made from organic cotton should briefly be tumble dried to add softness, but they can finish drying on the line. For all-in-ones, they will dry faster if turned inside out.
