Ideas for Letters to Campers
Sending a child to camp is a bittersweet experience for parents and campers. While most parents are happy to see their child learning and growing and experiencing new challenges, there's usually a bit of sadness at having to separate, even for a week. Send a letter to your camper to remind him that you're glad he's embarking on new adventures and tell him that he isn't forgotten while he's away.

Puzzle Page
-
Write a letter that gives your camper something to do during down time. Brainstorm a list of words that relate to a theme: camping, the beach, cooking, summer fun, animals or sports. Make a word search or crossword puzzle with those words by hand on paper or using an online puzzlemaking website. Embed words you'd write in a letter, such as "miss," "you," "have," "fun," or "proud."
Collage Scramble
-
Cut out words from a magazine that you would use to write a letter to your camper, such as "adventure," "fun," " sunshine," "dad" or "canoe." Cut out brightly colored, cheerful images that your camper will like and combine them all on a piece of paper. Glue them in a random order and overlapping all over the page so that almost none of the paper is showing. Put it in a large 9-by-12-inch envelope addressed to your camper.
Box of Eggs
-
Write 10 to 15 sentences that you would use in a letter on small strips of paper. Insert each strip of paper into a plastic egg. Place the eggs in a shoe box and send it to your camper to unscramble. Include a sticker or bead in each egg and a piece of elastic cord in one of the eggs. Your camper can use the beads to make a bracelet.

-
Buy a blank cardboard puzzle from a craft supply store. Write a letter to your camper on it with permanent marker, take apart the puzzle and send the pieces in a plastic sandwich bag or an envelope.
