How to Run for Secretary of the PTA

Acting as the secretary for your local Parent Teacher Association, or PTA, is a responsibility that involves recording and distributing meeting minutes, writing correspondence and managing the group̵7;s calendar. By participating in a child̵7;s education in this capacity, you can have a better idea about what happens at the school, offer suggestions, and build a rapport with teachers, school administrators and other parents. PTA elections are similar to elections that a board of directors may hold, in that they are generally free of flashy campaigns.

      Be an active member of the PTA. It is common for a PTA to require nominees to be current members who are in good standing.

Since PTA elections are generally free of campaigns with fliers and promotional rallies, you need to show the members your qualifications before the nomination process.       Request a nomination. When you feel confident that you want to serve as the next PTA secretary, tell the current officers and the head of the nominating committee about your interest. If you are nominated as secretary, the PTA members will receive an announcement about you and the other candidates before the election meeting.
