Resume Tips For Caregivers

I̵7;m a fairly new nanny who landed my current job because of my resume! It̵7;s a document that can make or break your caregiver career. I asked several mentors to give me resume tips for caregivers, and these tips can help you improve your job prospects and maximize your career.

Education and Certification

Education is important for any caregiving experience. Include details about your high school and college career, and add any training, licensing and certifications you̵7;ve received that are relevant for caregivers.

Experience

Have you watched kids before? Can you follow directions and multitask? Do you have experience caring for infants? Can you cook, clean, drive or speak a second language? Add any relevant paid and volunteer experiences to your resume and showcase your caregiving skills.

An experienced caregiver may prefer to follow a chronological format with dates of previous jobs. If you̵7;re new to caregiving, recently out of school or transitioning to a caregiving career from another job, consider writing a resume that simply lists your qualifications.

References

Ask previous employers to vouch for you. First, make sure they will give you a good referral. Then ask if you have their permission to include them as references and their preferred contact method.

Key Words

A resume is supposed to be short and sweet, but you add depth when you include key words such as dedicated, nurturing or conscientious. Descriptive words give potential employees insight into your qualifications, skills and character.

Honesty

Never stretch the truth in an attempt to land a job. Potential employees always verify information, so it pays to be honest when discussing your skills, education and qualifications.

Your resume tells potential employees about your skills and convinces them to hire you. With these tips, you create a great resume. What other resume tips do you recommend?
