This is the best month to hire a summer nanny

As a parent, it always feels like the school year flies by and before you know it, school’s out for the summer — again. And if you don’t have summer child care lined up already — whether it̵7;s a summer camp or a school program — you may find yourself scrambling to find a summer nanny who can step in and help you out.

But don’t worry, you’re not alone. We took a look at our summer hiring data and it turns out that most parents don̵7;t start looking for a summer nanny until June. But the numbers tell us something else: By then, the best nannies are probably gone.

Why so early?

Well, we have a theory on that.

Experienced nannies tell us that they̵7;re not waiting until June to look for a full-time summer gig. Instead, they’re typically hoping to have their summer plans locked down by May — or the end of May at the latest. This means that more nannies are looking for gigs in May than at any other time of the year.

And our data backs this up. In 2016, parents received 28% more applications to their full-time nanny positions during the month of May than at any other time of the year.

Additionally, it appears that the week of Memorial Day is the easiest week of the year for parents to hire a nanny. In fact, our data show that parents can expect to receive 39% more applications for full-time nanny jobs than at any other point in the year.

So, parents, this means that starting your nanny search in May is your best bet.

Find the best summer nanny

Ultimately, a summer nanny is going to make your life a lot easier — and your kids’ summer a lot more exciting. An experienced nanny can take care of the kids, organize outings and even create fun crafts with them while you’re out of the house. You can also search for nannies with a background in education so that your kids can retain a little of what they learned during the school year. Some nannies are even willing to help with different household chores like cooking and cleaning.

And this is why you shouldn̵7;t wait until the last minute to hire one. Since May seems to be the easiest month to hire a summer nanny, get the ball rolling by posting a job as soon as you can.
