There are many activities for kids to do in the Rochester area. Some area attractions include the Seneca Park Zoo, the Rochester Museum and Science Center and the Seabreeze Amusement Park. Kids can learn and have fun in the sun, while they enjoy the zoo or museum.

  1. Seneca Park Zoo

    • At the Seneca Park Zoo, there are many educational activities for children. Kids learn about the animals, their habitats and the conservation efforts needed to help protect the many endangered species in the world. Some of the many animals who call this zoo home include Amur leopards, black-handed spider monkeys, California sea lions, olive baboons, and a red-necked wallaby. Residents of the reptile and amphibian house include Panamanian golden frogs, an African pancake tortoise, beaded lizards and Burmese pythons. The zoo also houses an impressive collection of birds, including bald eagles, African black-footed penguins, emus, king vultures and even a scarlet ibis.

      The zoo also has a special area, the Kodak E.C.O. Center, where kids can learn about and sometimes touch the animals. Zoo keepers talk to children about the center's collection, which includes an African gray parrot, Harris's hawk, raccoons, sun conures, a thick-tailed bushbaby, snakes, reptiles and Madagascar hissing cockroaches.

      Other educational activities include school break camps, overnight events, child and family programs, school field trips and other special events held throughout the year.

      In addition, classes are offered year-round for pre-school aged children. These classes include "Slithering with Snakes," "Fabulous Frogs," "Animal ABCs", "Counting with Animals," "Night and Day" and "Animal Families." All of the pre-school programs teach through song, dance and other activities. Featured animals, including snakes, frogs and birds, are brought out for the kids to see and feel.

    Rochester Museum &Science Center

    • The Rochester Museum and Science Center houses three floors of interactive fun, while educating kids in science, technology and cultural heritage. The 13 acre campus also includes the Strasenburgh Planetarium and a 400-seat auditorium.

      Permanent museum exhibits include "Expedition Earth: Glaciers & Giants," "Expedition Earth Expands" and "At the Western Door."

      Kids can get a hands on experience in the Adventure Zone, where they can explore the waters of Lake Ontario. During this experience, kids dive to the lake floor in the Deep Submergence Vehicle, examine rock layers and operate the fill valves in an interactive model of the Erie Canal lock.

      The Rochester Museum and Science Center also offers camps, kids' events, scouting programs and other interactive activities throughout the year.

    Seabreeze
