Kids Activities in Spokane, Washington

The City of Spokane, which stretches along the Spokane River in Washington state, is home to approximately 210,000 people, according to 2013 U.S. Census Bureau estimates. Nearly a quarter of the city's residents are under the age of 18, and the area has plenty of entertaining activities to keep kids and families busy, including family fun centers, museums and a zoo.

  1. Museum and Science Center Activities

    • The Mobius Science Center and Mobius Children's Museum are located at the same address in Spokane, making it convenient to visit both attractions. The Science Center's exhibit "Space" features payload experiments involving spiders and chemical reactions; an "Astronomy Tent" in which children may learn about the night sky; and "NASA Viewspace," where they may see "continually-updated images, videos and news from major astronomical observatories." Bio Lab features a reptile tank, insect habitats and a plant wall. Other exhibits include Human Body, Sound, Flight and Engineering and Physics. The Children's Museum's features include a miniature city that teaches about traffic and bike safety, and "Friendly Critters," which is home to snakes, turtles, bugs and frogs.

    Riverfront Park Activities

    • Riverfront Park, which covers 100 acres, features an assortment of family-friendly activities. The Looff Carrousel is a 1909 hand-carved wooden carrousel that is open to all ages. An IMAX theater plays movies on a gigantic screen and the Spokane Falls SkyRide takes riders on a 15-minute ride over downtown Spokane, offering a different view of the city. Other activities include ice skating at the Ice Palace from October through March, mini-golf, train tours and amusement rides, including a Ferris Wheel, Tilt-a-Whirl and The Sizzler.

    Play Places

    • Jump and Bounce is an indoor playground and jump center. Inside, you'll find a zip-line, a three-story climbing structure, a birthday cake bouncer, slides, castles and a rocket ship. The Wonderland Family Fun Center offers more than five acres of attractions, both indoor and outdoor, including a rock climbing wall, two mini-golf courses, laser tag, bumper boats, go-karts, batting cages, an arcade and a two-story children's playhouse. Parents can pay for attractions individually or purchase fun passes, which cover multiple activities.

    Additional Children's Activities

    • Cat Tales Zoological Park is located in Mead, just 10 miles from Spokane. Visitors get an up-close look at a large variety of animals, including bears, tigers, lions and bobcats. Explore the zoo on your own or take a guided tour to learn even more about the animals. Children age 8 and older can even feed the animals. Another area attraction is Splash Down Family Waterpark, 10 miles away in Spokane Valley. Attractions include water slides, such as the Fast Ball, the Cannon Bowl and Spokane Falls. Petey's Lil' Puffer Fish Lagoon is a children's play area that features three kiddie pools and kiddie slides.
