Back to School Gifts for Teachers
Having your children take gifts to their teachers on the first day of school sets the tone for the rest of the school year. Teachers work hard prior to the school year setting up the classroom and developing the curriculum, and it's important for them to feel appreciated. Giving a gift as a small token will help the children understand how to show their appreciation.

Homemade Card
-
A back-to-school gift for a teacher does not have to be large or expensive. Your children can create homemade cards for their teachers, using construction paper, stickers and markers. The child can draw pictures of what he or she did over the summer and write a little about himself or herself. This also functions as an icebreaker for a nervous child and helps the teacher get to know the child.
Gift Certificate
-
Purchase a gift certificate from a local store or movie theater as a gift. This is a thoughtful gift for a teachers you do not know yet because they can pick out what they will use. Having a gift certificate gives the teacher an opportunity to buy something he or she would otherwise not purchase. If you give a gift certificate to a movie theater, the teacher will be able to relax after spending so much time educating your child.
Edible Gifts
-
Food gifts are practical--even if a teacher does not like the food, he or she can share with the other faculty at the school. A mug filled with candy or tea, a fruit basket or boxes of nuts are all suitable gifts for a teacher. Purchase snack-sized foods that the teacher can eat at school during a break easily. Do not give food gifts that are perishable. The teacher may forget to bring the gift home, and the food could spoil.
Teacher-Themed Gifts
-
A variety of gifts themed for a teacher are available. Teacher-themed gift ideas include mugs, notepads, tote bags, jewelry, neckties, pins and plaques. These gifts can be useful to the teacher or show his or her enthusiasm for the job. Consider the function of the gift for the teacher. A teacher will most likely use a notepad on a daily basis to write notes to themselves or parents. Tote bags are also helpful since teachers often transport papers to and from home.
