How to Sew a Little League Baseball Patch

Little League can be a great activity for boys and girls who are interested in baseball from the ages of 8 to 12. Not only do they get to practice and play real games, but they also get to wear a uniform. Along with that uniform there might be patches that are awarded for team spirit or tournament play. Here is how to sew a Little League patch onto a uniform.

Things You'll Need

  • Needle
  • Thread
  • Double-sided tape
  • Patch
  • Uniform shirt

Instructions

    • 1

Thread the needle. After threading the eye of the needle, raise an arm's length of string and then snip it off. Double the thread so that one end has the needle and the other end will have the two thread ends. Wrap those thread ends around your pinkie and tie in a knot. The knot will prevent the patch from loosening and falling off.

    • 2

Place the patch in the desired location on the uniform. Depending on what the patch is for, it may be placed in different places on the uniform. Check with your coach to see if there is a preference. Common locations are on the upper arm or over the chest.

    • 3

Secure the patch with double-sided tape. The tape will hold the patch in place and make sure that it is straight as you perform the initial stitches.

    • 4

Sew the patch onto the Little League uniform. Starting the needle from the inside of the baseball jersey, push the needle through the shirt and through the patch. Pull the string tight until the thread is against the inside of the shirt. Reinsert the needle back through the patch, and through the jersey, again pulling it tight. You have just completed one stitch.

    • 5

Repeat this process along the outer edge of the patch. Continue to sew the patch until you have worked your way all along the outer edge. Remove the double-sided tape after it is no longer needed.

    • 6

Finish sewing on the Little League patch. After you have pulled your last stitch through to the underside of the baseball jersey, take the point of the needle and go under the previous stitch. Pull the needle through, creating a loop. Then take the needle and go back through the loop you just created and pull it tight. (You are again making a knot to secure the thread.) Repeat this two more times so that the patch is triple-knotted.
