Cosco Booster Seat Instructions

Booster car seats are designed for children who are too large for a traditional front-facing car seat but aren't big enough yet to be safe in an adult car seat. Adult car seats are generally designed for people taller than 4 feet, 9 inches, so until then, children should use a booster seat. Cosco brand offers three different types of booster car seats to choose from.

  1. Cosco High Back Booster Car Seat

    • This booster seat is available in two designs. There is the high back booster and the Ventura high back booster. They are both, however, installed and used the same way. This booster can be used for children 22 to 80 pounds. While the child is 22 to 40 pounds, it can be used as a front-facing car seat. You will attach the child to the seat using the five-point harness. The car seat belt will slide through the available slots on the back of the car seat.

When the child is 40 to 80 pounds, you will be able to use the seat as a booster. First, remove the straps for the five-point harness. They will detach through the back of the seat. Place the booster in the back seat of the vehicle where the child will be seated. Have the child sit in the booster, and then pull the car seat belt over the front of the child. There are two slots on the upper side of the booster seat that you can slide the seat belt through. These slots are designed to position the seat belt so it is safe for the size of the child. Slide the seat belt through the appropriate slot so that it goes across the child's outer shoulder and across the child's chest. Then bucket the seat belt.

The high back booster seat is best for children who are over the weight limit for a traditional front-facing car seat but are still to short for a backless booster seat. Although these booster seats are safe for children up to 100 pounds, as the child gets taller they will likely be more comfortable in a backless booster seat.

    Cosco backless Booster Car Seat

    • The backless booster car seats are for children 30 to 100 pounds. They are available in two models, the Ambassador and the Highrise. Both models are installed and used the same way. These boosters are simply, placed on the back seat of the car, and the car seat belt is strapped over the child. These are designed to simply boost the child up so that the seat belt does not cross about their shoulders. The backless booster seat is best for children tall enough that they don't need the extra adjustment to the height in the seat belt, which is offered with the high back booster seat.

Cosco Pronto Belt Positioning Booster Car Seat

    • The Pronto Belt Positioning Booster Car Seat stars out as a high back booster seat, and then as the child grows tall enough that he doesn't need the side slots to adjust the height of the seat belt, the back can be removed. Once the back is removed, this booster seat will be used the same as the backless booster seats in the previous section.

This booster seat does the job of both the high back booster seat and the backless booster seat, so even though it costs more, it can save you from buying two booster seats.
