Evenflo Chase Booster Car Seat Safety
The Evenflo Chase is a moderately priced car seat that saves money because it transitions a child from the five-point harness to a booster seat without having to purchase another seat. The seat comes in several colors and styles. As with all car seats and booster seats, it is only safe if you carefully follow all of the instructions. Be sure to read the Evenflo Chase owner's manual carefully and also look over your car's manual section on child safety.

Five Point Harness Use
-
The Evenflo Chase can be used as a five point harness car seat for younger children. The seat can only be used in the forward facing orientation and is therefore not suitable for infants under the age of one. Beginning after the first birthday a child can use the Evenflo Chase seat if he is at least 20 pounds and more than 29 inches tall. The five-point harness can be used safely until the child reaches 40 pounds or his shoulders are above the top harness slots. Once either of those conditions is met, the seat is no longer safe for use with the five point harness straps. .
Booster Seat Use
-
Once a child is older, the Evenflo Chase can be used as a booster seat. The five point harness straps are removed and the child uses a regular seatbelt instead. A child can begin using the seat as a booster once they weigh 30 pounds if his shoulders are higher than the top slot for the harness straps. Until he outgrows the height or weight limit of the five-point harness, he can switch to using the seat as a booster. The Evenflo Chase can continue to be used as a booster seat until the child reaches 100 pounds or 54 inches. When in use as a booster, make sure the lap belt lays flat across the child̵7;s hips, never across the stomach. The shoulder strap comes across the child̵7;s shoulder and chest. Never use the Chase booster without the chest strap.
Expiration and Replacement
-
All car seats now have expiration dates. The Evenflo Chase has a sticker attached with the date of manufacture as well as the model number and other important information. This car seat model expires six years after its manufacturing date, whether it is in use as a five-point harness car seat or as a booster. In addition, if you are in an accident with the Evenflo Chase in the car, even if your child is not seated in it during the incident, you should replace it with a new seat. The safety of the seat could be comprised and you are always better off safe than sorry in this situation.
Installation
-
The Evenflo Chase seat can be installed with either the vehicle̵7;s seat belt or the LATCH restraint system. When using the seat belt for installation, follow your vehicle̵7;s instructions for locking the seat belt. If your belts do not have a locking option, use the included T-clip to lock the belt in place. This will ensure the belt doesn̵7;t loosen over time or during a crash. If your car is a 2002 or newer model, you can also use the LATCH system to install the Evenflo Chase. Each car model has slightly different rules and instructions, so read your car̵7;s owner̵7;s manual to ensure a safe fit. Once your child begins using the seat as a booster, you will no longer need to use the seat belt or LATCH to keep the seat in place because the child will be using the seatbelt to restrain himself.
Use of Accessories
-
The Evenflo Chase comes with several accessories including a cup holder and a storage container. Be sure to choose soft cups for use in the cup holder. Hard cups could cause injury if you are forced to slam on the brakes. Only use the cup holder, pillows and other attachments that Evenflo includes in the box. These have been tested carefully and are considered safe for your child to use. Any other accessories sold separately should never be used. While they may be safe, they have not been tested specifically with the Evenflo Chase and should not be used.
