Graco Booster Seat Requirements

Graco makes several different booster seats. Some come with removable back support while others are just the seat. Each comes with an owner&'s manual that will outline the requirements for that particular model and should be read thoroughly. However, the specifications are similar for most Graco booster seats. You will also want to check your state requirements for children in booster seats to make sure you are compliant.

  1. Age

    • Graco booster seats with back support are for children about 3 years old to 10 years old depending on the height and weight of the child.

      Graco backless booster seats are for children about 4 years old to 10 years old, again, depending on the height and weight of the child.

    Height

    • Graco booster seats with back support are to be used for children who are between 38 and 57 inches in height. A child&'s ears should never be above the back of the headrest on the back support of the booster seat.

      Graco backless booster seats are to be used for children between 40 and 57 inches in height. A child&'s ears must always be below the top of the vehicle&'s seat or head rest.

    Weight

    • Children must weight between 30 and 100 pounds to ride in a Graco booster seat with back support.

      Children must weigh at least 40 pounds, or up to 100 pounds, to ride in a Graco booster seat without back support.

    Shoulder Strap

    • According to Graco guidelines, a shoulder strap must be used with all booster seats. Do not use shoulder straps that are on an automatic slide or are attached to a door. A standard manual shoulder strap is safest for children in booster seats.

      The strap should be placed between the end of the shoulder and curve of the neck. It should never be across the arm or against the neck.

      Graco booster seats with back support will have a slot for the shoulder strap to slide through as a guide that should be used every time.

    Seat Placement

    • Children riding in any type of Graco booster seat should be placed in the back seat of the vehicle. Whenever possible, the booster seat should be located in the center position. The booster seat should always be front facing and never placed in a seat that faces the rear of the car.
