Bath Accessories for Children

In general, bathrooms are designed and decorated for adult use. However, when children become part of the family, you may decide to make modifications to the bathroom so that they can use the facilities more easily and feel comfortable in a kid-friendly environment. Kids may enjoy their tooth-brushing and baths more if they're surrounded by accessories that remind them of their favorite books or TV shows.

  1. Water Toys

    • When raising a child, you want the experience of washing to be a positive one so that they practice good hygiene. Placing water toys in the tub will allow them to play while you give them a bath or they wash themselves. Look for bath-toy characters from children's books, movies and television shows, or just a little fleet of cute rubber ducks and frogs. You can also purchase wash cloths and towels with kid-friendly characters.

    Bathroom Stool

    • Provide a child-size stool so your child can reach the sink and see himself in the mirror while he washes his hands or brushes his teeth. A lightweight stool that won't tip over is best.

    Shower Curtain

    • Get a vinyl shower curtain in bright colors with a bold geometric pattern, an aquatic scene with fish or your child's favorite cartoon characters. Be sure it has weights to keep it hanging down inside the tub.

    Nightlight

    • A nightlight in the bathroom will help young children find their way if they need to go potty in the middle of the night. Some night lights even have kid-friendly designs.

    Decorative Trashcan

    • Teaching children to throw trash in the proper place will help them learn how to clean up after themselves. Purchase a trashcan with a step-and-close lid. Kids enjoy opening the lid this way, and the lid will keep the trash from spilling onto the floor if the trashcan gets knocked over.
