How to Childproof Your Child's Kindle Fire
The Kindle Fire is a miniature tablet computer that can be used to watch movies, read books and play games. This versatile electronic device can provide entertainment for your kids when you're on the go, whether you're on a long car ride, on a flight or you're trying to grocery shop with the kids. Before letting your kids loose with a Kindle Fire, you might want to childproof it to keep them safe.
Instructions
Create a new Amazon.com account just for your child's Kindle Fire by visiting the website and clicking on "Hello. Sign In Your Account." Enter your email address, select "No, I am a new customer" and click "Sign in using our secure server." Follow the instructions to create your new account. Register your Kindle Fire by entering the email address and password you used to set up your account on the Kindle Fire. This is ideal if you have more than one Kindle Fire in your home and don't wish to use Amazon Prime for viewing movies and television shows on your child's device. Delete the payment method on your current account if you wish to share accounts with your child. This ensures that apps, movies, books and music cannot be bought from your child's Kindle Fire by mistake. To do this, just log in to your Amazon.com account, select "Manage Payment Options" and click on "Delete" next to your payment method. Create a passcode lock for Wi-Fi to prevent your child from accessing the Internet on the Kindle Fire. Touch the "Quick Settings" icon, select "More," "Parental Controls" and move "Enable Parental Controls" to "ON". From here, enter a password and tap "Finish." Change the other Parental Control Options by going back into "Quick Settings," selecting "More" and going into "Parental Controls." Here, you can block the web browser, block certain apps, music, books, videos and documents. Install an app, like Kids Place, onto your child's Kindle Fire to prevent your kids from doing anything harmful on the device. This app creates a home screen that only shows apps you have approved for your kids to play. It also prevents kids from purchasing or downloading apps and comes with a timer to lock the device after the amount of time you specify, creating time limits for your kids. Protect your child's device from drops by purchasing a protective case -- such as an OtterBox -- or shell to keep it in. Previous:Do Cats Cause Health Problems in Kids?
