How to Run a Bath for Young Children
Bath time not only gets your child clean, but it is also time for him to have fun splashing in the water. It's important to remain safe during bath time by taking safety precautions before, during and after the bath is over. Supervision is essential for the entire duration of the bath for young children.
Things You'll Need
- Soap
- Wash cloth
- Towel
Instructions
Get everything together that you'll need before you start the bath. Once your child is in the water, you won't be able to leave the room. Put the wash cloth and soap by the tub. Fill the tub with warm water. Check the temperature before allowing your child to get in by submerging your arm up to the elbow in the water. To minimize the risk of burns, use a bath thermometer to ensure that the water temperature is between 90 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Add toys to the water or the edge of the tub. Ensure that the toys are labeled specifically for bath time use and dry them after each use. Allow your child to get in the tub and splash around. Ensure he remains seated, to minimize his chances of slipping. Give him some time to play and you won't even need to wet him down because he'll already have that taken care of. Wash and condition his hair with no-tears formula shampoo and conditioner to prevent eye irritation. Talk him through the process and convince him to tilt his head back to prevent water from getting in his eyes. Apply soap or body wash to a wash cloth and encourage your child to wash his body. Supervise to ensure he doesn't miss any spots while learning to bathe independently. Wrap him in a towel when he's done bathing and dress him promptly to prevent him from getting cold.
